William H. Thurston to Laura J. Morgan, 14 July 1864
Camp near Petersburg
July 14, 1864
Laura, I have had much anxiety thinking you was sick or something serious had happened you. I answered your letter of July first but recd no answers. I cannot rest until I know the cause of [faded]. nothing has happened to cause you to restrain from writing to me. I cannot for the present think that after all our intimacy and former distrust that anything could intervene to paralyze your feelings which I so fondly hoped and felt assured were sincere. I may have given you reasons for such but if so I did what I [faded] I was doing all to please you.
please do not think strange of me for making these remarks, I assure you I am sincere and mean no harm.
The weather is extremely warm no rain, news unimportant Some excitement caused by the [faded]
I will close. I will look for your reply Laura I still remain your devoted and true friend
