My Own Dear L
I have seated me down to answer yours of March 4th which I have just recd. I will not promise to write you a long letter as tis now bed time but I thought I could not sleep until I answered your letter. I hope you may have a good time during your visit and I should love to be with you but guess L thinks I would be too noisy for the Preachers and would spoil the party. So perhaps tis best that I cant be there. I think my letters must like to go in company otherwise they would not wait and come together. What does my L think of this. I have recd Huldas letter after a long time and have answered. She has many excuses, / in fact more than I had for not going with her to Rush. She calls me cousin. I must have more friends than I knew.

I knew you would be sorry for writing me that letter of the 17th. Well I am sorry that I was the cause of your doing so. So I perceive, we are better penitents and willing to ask forgiveness. And we will forget it all.

This has been a wet rainy day. Mud mud. no end. Yesterday the sun shone warm, and to day rain. the weather is so changeable that tis not safe on a clear day to leave camp one hour for fear of storms. Pickett firing is brisk to night more so than usual. I can hear the balls whiz all the time. I think we will not remain in camp much longer. Just as soon as the roads get dry we will move and then / you can look for interesting news and may be a great battle.

The boys in the Company presented me with a beautiful bridle that cost $20. twenty dollars. I tell you I felt proud, tis not the value but you know in what way I received it.

I will send you a picture of one of the boys in my section. he is my pet, an interesting little fellow 16 years of age. he goes by the name of pretty Johnny in the Compy. he looks like a little girl his skin is fair and he is perfectly beauty. the picture is not good but enough to see his features. he comes in my tent and talks for hours with me. he is young but knows no fears. I think as much of him as a brother. I will tell you more about him when I come home. Laura, did you send me a Valentine or what was you / alluding to on our wrapper. I have not recd one single Valentine

I must now close my kind regards to all. please write soon as I am so anxious to hear from you often.

            I remain as ever yours
