Dear Laura.
Your kind letter mailed 19th was received last knight. I was glad to hear from you again and to know that you was well I sympathize with you. I know what you have suffered with tooth ache. I have had some experience in that respect since I have been in the Army and you may recollect when I lived with you I was plagued with my teeth. I will tell you before I write more that you must not expect a long letter this time, hoping you will not think my will is / not good enough, but I have only a few moments to spare and them I will devote to you in writing
I recd a short letter from Sister lizzie. She is home and well. I was so glad to have her write as she seldom writes to me. The weather is splendid and we have good times. We have our camp complete and will have rest. Henry Wiseman went to Appomattox Court House and brought us a buggy. we are out riding all the time when we have nothing to do. the 9th Corps has gone to Washington. the flags are still at half mast in mourning the death of Lincoln Cannon are fired all the day long and will be kept / up for sixty days.
I thought of going to Richmond but no passes can be had at the present. furloughs are being granted. Frank P Brockway is going home in a few days and will pass through Sunbury. I will not come unless I get to Washington which may happen ere long We have recd all new horses in our Battery, which looks as though we would not remain here long they are splendid animals but I am sure we will do no more fighting, but may remain in the service some time and may be the balance of our time but I hope not. I will tell you so soon as I find what disposition they will make of our Batteries.
dont forget to tell me whether Bec Brice has heard from Andrew. he may be among the missing as the Cavalry done hard fighting I hope not.
Why dont Joe answer my letter tell him tis high time or I may remind him of a few things. remember me kindly to all your family and dont forget to write soon and tell me all.
I remain yours always
