Friend Will
                                    Your letter came to hand last Thursday and read with pleasur. the reason of my delaing of not wrighting,
we met with loss, Mrs Knobb Mother Burried here Mother last week. My Step Mother is a sister of Mrs Knobb, I thought perhaps you dident know it.
Will I hope you shall over look it this time, after this I shall try and be more punctual. you stated in your letter you thought that you would all soon return home / again I only hope you will get home safe and hope that shall be soon. there was a gentleman friend of mine returnd home last week he met with a cevere wound in his shoulder was the cause of his return
 
Will I guess you have experence the ceanse that have past since you have binn the Cervice I exspect know body know what a home is untill they get in the rear of battle and then get slaughterd by the Rebbils, and then they think of home I exspect that is the way with you pick up courage and think of the pleasant hour / you spent at Sunbury I heard all about it
 
I come to a close for the present time it is 6 oclock and I must take it to the post Ofice before the mail shuts up. good buye for this tim right soon
