Laura J. Morgan to William H. Thurston, 14 May 1865
Sunbury Northd co Pa
May 14th 1865.

Dear Will:
It is now 9 days since you have written to me, last letter I recd on the 8th this month. I am so anxious to hear from you I cannot rest one minute; I cannot imagine why it is that I dont hear from you when you are so near home as Washington City. I thought I surely would not be disappointed in regard to getting a letter last evening or seeing you. I thought you would come as you had told me you would after getting to our Capitol but I was disappointed again as I have often read this life is full of disappointments for those who are sure of having their wishes gratified. I will hope on but a wise king has told us that "hope deferred maketh the heart sick". I imagine / 'tis the strength of the mind that sickens the heart, but I have not yet decided wether I am sick or given up to weakness of mind. I would suggest that you decide as you can judge from my letters.

This has been a lovely may day, summer in all its glory, and no war, 'tis sublimely grand, but I want my Lieut back now.

Sallie Bucher and I spent yesterday afternoon with Mrs Brice 'till after the train came up when we made our exit rather abruptly, in order to get our mail. Becca says Andy cannot come until Oct she feels so bad about it, as she thought he would soon be home to stay.

I have nothing of importance to tell you concerning this old city excepting that the river is almost bank full, and a little more will give us the pleasure of moving out of our cellars again.

Ed Gobin is married, also Abby folks say Colonel is coming too with his / wife, there will be quite a party of the newly married at Uncle Sam Gobins aint we nice.

Huldah and Mag have gone home, they went yesterday. Mag is coming back [?]. next Sabb one week there is a whole crowd of Jennys folks going up from here as there is to be a big meeting at the Presbyterian church. I think I will go too if Providence permits.

Now Dear Will, please tell all about what you think of getting home and write soon and tell me all. please excuse me for this rambling letter, I could not collect my thoughts to write as I feel like doing, as there is too much noise here.

with much love and kind regards from the family I am your sincere and affectionate Lau Morgan
To
            Lieut Thurston
