My Best Friend:
I had promised to write to you on Sunday but it was most impossible, as we had company all day Uncle Griers were here and in the afternoon Meal came, and I think you will pardon me, as it was not negligence by any means.
This is a lovely morning in the picnic month. I wish you were here and we were going on a flower excursion. I think we both love nature enough to enjoy a ramble over 'old Mason'.
Will, I miss you more than ever, it seems to me continually as if you would come and I often find my-self looking for you.
The review must have been grand. You were right when you thought I could have appreciated too a sight of our noble army, as I have never seen anything of the kind.
Andy Brice is at home come to stay. / Becca was not sorry.
Mrs Jennie Campbell is in town serving for Mrs Stroh. She comes down often, she is so anxious to have her husband come home she looks for him with every train. Does Joe give you much trouble? tell him we miss him a little have no one to feed the chickens or tease Dick. I would like to see him back if he does not cherish the sentiments which young Bradford expressed. does he keep himself nice and behave when before strangers tell him that Mr Dixon is uneasy about him. We are glad he is in good spirits tell him to keep so if he can. Mag says remember her to all the officers—grand, dont forget me.
Will: I have asked my parents consent in regard to our being married on the 2nd July, which they readily gave Papa says he is a worthy young man, always have liked him and have lived to show that respect toward him which is due him. he says he is sorry that I felt timid about telling or asking him / as he has always encouraged our correspondence. he made quite a lengthy eulogy on your good qualities and ended by hoping we would be most happy, with his best wishes and so forth.
I am ahead of you, sh! well I thought it would be better for me to tell them as I thought it my duty, also have some things to prepare which will take a week or two.
Don't you think you had better write to Papa and say something about, it will please him more.
If you find that you cannot come home on the 2nd please tell me in time as Papa will make arrangements to have a party of your and my friends here, or if you should change your mind in regard to the time.
Dear Will: I wish you could be home two or three days previous to the evening of our marriage. If you have any arrangements to make, or anything to suggest, be frank in telling my parents, as I assure you they do entertain a high regard for you.
I have not time to write much more this morning but will write often to / make up. I have ordered the prettiest bonnet, I am anxious to see it. please don't think me wild. I am perfectly calm cool by the way you remember the fan that I am so proud of.
with much love from home to you and Joe and the warmest love my nature can afford I wish you all the happiness heaven and earth can bestow. from your true and
Loving L. J. Morgan
To my Lieut W.H.T.
