William H. Thurston to Laura J. Morgan, 17 September 1865
Allegheny House Sept 17/65
Dear Laura,
Your kind letter was received this morning and read with pleasure. Uncle Grier and Goldin are doing well. we will start for home on next Tuesday morning. I hope you are better I think all the time you must be sick. I suppose you have seen our furniture by this time. tis not fine but I could not afford to get better. I will not be able to get any more carpets at the present I can get a rocker chair as cheap at home as here. our carpet cost $90 & furniture $75, dishes $18. I bought some nice glass and the balance plain ware. I have paid out $250 and have not all I had intended to get. I got spoons knives & forks. Lamps clock & ticking. I have no bedclothes whatever. I will get some tomorrow as far as my money reaches.
I will attend to your Papa request cheerfully
I remain with much love your
Affectionate Husband
