William H. Thurston to Unknown, undated
...and will bring them home.
They were sent me by the Ladies Aid Society, from Laurel, Delaware. I will tell you how I happened to be the recipient of this beautiful gift. James Riggin a member of our Baty who fell at Gettysburg came from Laurel. I wrote a letter to his Parents how he met with his death, which I suppose was published, and this was sent me as a token of respect.
You must recollect my showing his picture to you the first time I came home. he was my bedfellow a brave and noble soul.
I will have to close my kind regards to your family. please write soon.
I remain as ever yours.
