Laura, I have written one short sheet concerning the Army. And I will now spend the balance of the time to something which may be of interest to you and not the family. I know they are anxious to have you read my letters, for this we [line obscured]
 
that had brothers killed in these battles. this looks hard to see one brother help to put another in the grave, but here I must not tell these sights that we must so often see I do not think it right to picture these horrible scenes to friends at home it must cause much sorrow and trouble among faint hearted people.
I think you must have a beautiful home, how I would love to come and pay you a visit but tis idle for me to talk about it when I know it cannot be. 
 
I am happy to hear that Louisa Wolf has found a partner I hope she may be happy
 
I do not think that Geeslers girls will get older until they find men. I have often heard it remarked that a maid never gets [line obscured]
 
answer soon and tell me all remember me kindly to your family. also excuse this poorly written letter, the difficulty in writing is great, the dust is flying all over the paper. What you cant read you must guess at.
