Unknown to Unknown, undated
My Christian friends I feel Thankful to God that he has spared my life to come here this knight in the class room to mingle my voice with these devoted followers of Jesus in praise and thanksgiving for the mercy he has here shown me and the innumerable blessings he has bestowed upon me as I have from my youth up with but few exceptions been blessed with good health which is one of gods greatest gifts but with regret I must say with all these privileges I spent the days which should have been devoted to a higher and nobler calling in presents of the pleasures of this world which will disappear if not dim in the memory live and will prove to be all vanity in the end.
but I thank God to knight that he put it into my heart to try to be a Christian and devote the few days I have to live in a more useful calling. Why Christian friends I think tis a blessed privilege we enjoy that god permits us to come here and mingle in praises to the great giver of every good and perfect gift. he has given us all we need he has filled our [?] and made us a free and happy people. O then Christian friends how ungrateful we have been, how careless and unconcerned, not even willing to bend the knee to our creator to thank him for his mercy and goodness, that he has so unsparingly dealt out to us. Then let us to knight resolve to be more zealous in the cause of Christ and that we may inherit the crown. Think of it my Christian friends to inherit the crown that blessed thought that glorious reality, over which angels rejoice a home in heaven what a glorious thought as the poor man toils in his weary lot /
Yes my Christian friends we have a work to do and if we neglect to have it well done we cannot inherit that crown we cannot look to that happy future when we lie upon our death beds, when our poor frail bodies are racked with pain when our miserable soul is fast drifting toward the eternal world with certainty unless our work is well done.
Then lets be earnest Christians alwas guarding strictly our interests for eternity and God will bless us and reach comfort us in the dying hour.
