The news in the Army is unimportant and but little going on save cooking and eating. Thousands of recruits are coming to the Army and we will have a strong force by spring. we look for active operations to commence as soon as the roads...

I must now close. the bugle has sounded its last note my comrades all have gone to sleep. no doubt many are dreaming of loved ones at home which they never more will [torn away]
