Mary Ashley
Mary Ashley (maiden name: Aumend) was born around 1812 in Pennsylvania to Adam Aumend. Her family moved to Auburn, Ohio, around 1819, and she married Ebenezer Ashley on November 21, 1830. They had six children: Clarissa; Philo, born around 1833; Franklin, born around 1834; Elam, born around 1837; Leonora, born around 1839; and William, born on March 9, 1842. Her husband died in 1843, and she married Elijah Ashley—Ebenezer’s brother—on July 11, 1844. They had two children: Jerome, born around 1846; and Judson, born around 1849.
 
Elijah Ashley died on April 21, 1850. She raised her children on her own, and by 1850, she owned $2,000 of real estate. A decade later, she owned $3,000 of real estate and $200 of personal property. By 1880, she was living in her son Elam’s household in Auburn. She died in 1896.
