Dear Let
            your letter of the 5 of July came to hand last night it found me well and ancious to hear from you the friend of my ( ) I have received but one letter from you since I came here the Corps has all gone to Indianolia texas 300 miles from here have to cross the gulf the troops have all gone except the gueards the 64 ohio 57 Ill 36 Ill 31 Ind are back one or two Regiments will remain till all is gone it is doubtfull when we leave the 2nd Brigade Head Qrs are here yet the place where we will go is on the line of Mexico & texas it is reported to healthy but cannot tell but hope it is 
 
you need not be surprised to hear of us in Mexico for it will not surprise me in the least but will not go if not compeld to time will disclose the facts of the case but I hope that the Mixican question will be settled with out the interferance of the United States Maximilian has given up those guns and in god order but it is in the paper that our govrnment has orderd France not to land any more troops in Mexico but we hear all kinds of reports here you were speaking of warm weath well as you may suppose it is some warm here and some rain but I have seen as warm wather in Georgia last summer and I believe at Nashville Tenn
           
We have very good times here very little to do our wagons have gone to texas so we have nothing to do but take care of our animals / but that is more than I care about doing but have to do my part I am at the same business as before but conciderable addition to our stock but all the same to me
           
We have all of green fruit that we want of the kind mellons figs tomatoes some potatoes & that is about all we have have some peaches but have not seen an apple yet but have not been about town much
           
we heard the 17th Corps was musterd out but donot know how it is let me know if Wallace is at home I expect Frank Cummins is at home hope he is
           
I have not heard from home since Lincoln was killed donot know whether they are alive or not but suppose they are I have writen 3 letters since I received one from them should have wrote but time will not permit / but will try and answer evry I receive you may do as you please with that money but I must close hope to hear from you soon
