Let I suppose you will want to know what we are doing here well we are working on the railroad that is / the regiment I am a noncombattant so I donot have to work on the road I have a detail in the Quarter Masters department as foragemast but my work is light when I was at the Brigade Hd Qrs I had 12 times as much to do I have been travling on the railroad to Victoria and back 12 miles distant but very little pleasure in that for the soldiers are not very particular how they lay the track
Let I must tell you about our country and the weather we have here at times we have very nice weather and at times not so nice for instance a fiew nights ago had a little gale which caused a great many of us houses to tip over and a great many wet backs and beds I saw some going around in their night clothes / that nature so bountifully bestode on them excepting a short government shirt but I was all o.k.
we are hopefull we will soon leave this country I think 6 weeks will see me home with my little wife if all is right there is orders for the Corps to be musterd out immediately this I know to be a fact as it came to Hd Qrs last knight while I was there
