George Deacon Cox
George Deacon Cox was born around 1843 in New Jersey to Jesse Cox and Susannah Deacon. His father was a merchant who owned $12,000 of real estate and $30,000 of personal property in 1860. The family moved to Norristown, Pennsylvania, sometime before 1860. Cox worked as a clerk in Philadelphia during the Civil War. He married Emma Rodgers Hoopes on November 19, 1868, at a Quaker meeting in Philadelphia, and their daughter Alice was born around 1869. The family lived in Philadelphia, and Cox worked as a wholesale liquor dealer. By 1870, he owned $7,500 of real estate and $20,000 of personal property, and he employed at least one domestic servant. He died on September 30, 1896.
