Dear Sister
               I got your letter of Jan the 26 in good time and was glad to hear from you and the rest of the folks you wanted me to find out who Emma & Lidia Draw married one married a man from Roxbury Mass. and lives there now the other a fellow from Dover and lives there you dont know either of them or I either 
 
I have enlisted for 3 years I brought nothing from home only what I wore on my back you wanted to know how mother came to think of letting me enlist, by Gracious I had to coaxed & coaxed. Iras wife and Aunt Mary is at the old place Enoch takes care of things for them
 
You wanted me to send you a few dollars if I could but I cant untill next pay day which will be the first of March. it takes a good deal of money to keep a fellow alive hear I should like to if I could. I had a letter from Father last night they are all well. there is a story about disbanding 200,000 men and the Sharp Shooters but I hope not if they do rather than to go home / I will go over the river Potomac and enlist in the 5th NH Regt. I wont go home if I can help it and I think I can now that I have got away from them, but I am willing to help them all that I can but I cant much while I am in the Army on 13 dollars a month it takes about one half of it to buy stuff here which is nessary nessesary to have it is not very cold here almost all the boys are well it is pretty muddy here sometimes I would like to have you and Emma have your Daguertypes taken and sent to me I have gained 6 pounds since / I came out here I weigh 160 pounds. If ever I live to get home I will buy you and Emma an 1862 new years present now cirtin. I never got the paper you sent me a long time ago. you did not back it right or the first letter that you wrote either, but the last one you did. Cant stop to write any more now
