Dear Sister
Your letter of March the 19 came to hand in du season. But when I got it I was in Alexandria Va. you said in your letter you hoped I would not leave Washington untill I left to come home I left washington the day you rote my Birth day we travelled about 2 milles below Alexandria and camped down in the opned air it rained hard all day night. the next morning we started for this place raining all the time. we are about 3½ miles from Alexandria city. expect to leave here shortly and join Gen. Burnside when we land. I think we will be in a battle before 10 days but dont know. I think that we will have to help take Norfolk to Richmond & perhaps New Orleans / I wish from the bottom of my heart we could be in a battle within 10 days. we cirtinly will not see home for 1 or 2 years

It snowed here yesterday about 1 inch perhaps you dont think we have any snow here to day is Sunday and it has rained all day.

I got a letter from Oliver Wiggin the other day and have answered it. there is not any news to write now. The Tamworth boys are all well & hearty. every thing looks hard here at presant. it is prety cold to day. I have not got any postage stamps. So I will have to send it without any. we cant get them here and money wont do. we have got to have the stamp or none I am sorry but cant help it write as soon as you get / this.
