It is Sunday and I have nothing in particular to do I will commence a letter to you. Last Thursday about 5,000 men includeing 2 Cos of Sharp Shooters from this Regt. went over the river on a scouting expedition. we heard from them last night. they were down to Orange Court House and had met the Rebles and been fighting all day Yesterday we could hear the cannons roar untill 10 oclock last night. dont know how they made it I expect we will have to go down there in a day or two. I hope so it is 20 miles from Richmond. we will do something pretty soon now that Gen'l Pope has got command of the Army of Virginia. we like / Gen'l Pope first rate. I got a paper from you some time ago with 6 postage stamps. they were very accepterable with the paper. it is very seldom that I get a paper from the North. I got a letter from Eliza the other day they are all well I hope you will get the money I sent you. we have mooved our camp about ¼ of a mile we mooved yesterday and had to work hard all day to build new tents. we live in log huts 2 or 3 in a hut. a fellow by the name of Joshua T. Aiken tents with me. Andrew Berry is in Fryburg Maine to work. I have got to go to roll call now

the two Co's of Sharp Shooters with all the rest have come in just now they went down to Orange Court House yesterday morning they had a skirmish with the Reble Cavelry and whiped them killing 5 or 6 of them and bringing / in one prisioner. not one of our boys were hurt a parcel Bully for them. they are a goin to send out another larger force in a day or two to meet the Reble Gen'l Jackson who is at Gordonsville, and of course the Regt of SharpShooters will have to go with the rest of them I hope they will go soon for I want to go and all the boys are ancious for a brush with accursed Rebles. before I go home I want to have a chance to fire once at a Reble if no more, and I guess I need not wory but what I shall have chances enough. I hope so at any rate. the boys brought in hens, ducks, geese, &c to have a feast Bully for them I hope they will give me a chance to get some too. that fireing that we heard last / night was at Gordonsville and not at Orange Court House as I said before. I think we will have some stiring times here before a great while. I cant think of any more to write now so I will close. Write soon and how business is at Boston
write soon and I will answer it imeadeatly. my love to all and a good share for yourself
