Tamworth Jan 2d 98 Sabbath morning 9 P.M. A.M.

it is verry pleasant this morning but Friday night & yesterday we had about 1½ feet of snow fall one & a half feet this is a good lump for once the roads are broken out. I was luck the day before the storm Erwin hauled me 4 ox loads of wood & Gilman Jim Gilman sawed one day & so I have a plenty Old Lill has a broken leg Bickford moved in Xmass or about that time his dog bit & broke her left fore leg I thought I would have her killed but she hobbles about & eats hearty & I will let her live if she can

I have done as you wished & paid Mrs Williams up to Jan the 1th I intended to send you some money before this El Wiggin is owing me & I am waiting for him he said last week I should have some in a few days. I havnt ben to the vill for 4 days shal go tomorrow if nothing prevents

I dont see eny thing of Bickfords folks or not to speak to them. I helped them unload they had a site of goods & a piano their daughter is with them & will stay for the winter I hear. Ben Gilman is up & down & getting no better nor cant. Hellen has gone to mass. Ed Hurd died in parris France last Sept. I am better of my Neuralgia, if it only holds I shal be glad

Mrs Howard is still at the old stand I havnt got Mrs Williams quite learned to keep house yet she cant remember from one day to another she will say yes & no & not under stand what you are talking about then ask afterwards she cant remember yet she does some things verry well I find no fault with her. she would never do to cook & wait on men at work in haying & tend the table, but as it is I put up with it I told Friday she must cook up somthing for we was living rather short & I wasnt used to it so she did cook some / beans & sweet cake I wish you could happen in sometimes & see what is put on the table for a meal I dont say eny thing till Friday she is verry quiet but the closest for victuals of eny one I ever saw where there was enough but this is or has ben her way in the past or she would not do so I think she means well but dont understand

pet has caught 2 rats & et them he is fat as a pig

well I cant think of eny more to write & will close by giving you all my love & best wishes. Mrs Williams sends respts My respects to your neighbors you know who
