Brother Sam
I recd your letter money all safe & I have got before all that you sent me a $1 dollar & 50 in another.

We are having real bad weather here now. Yesterday the wind blew a gale all day towards night it commenced snowing this morning it is two or three inches deep but is warmer and thawing fast. I shall get sick of the "sunny south" unless it gets warmer before long I have had an awful cold been excused from duty all the week. / have been so hoarse I could hardly speak aloud. I am getting better now. dont think I shall get excused any more I wrote you monday that I had sent my money home by express. it did not start till wednesday. I sent to Canandaigua to be sent to Honeoye by Sisson & left at Franklins.

Have you read Gen Butler's speech in New York we got it in yesterdays Tribune I wish he was in Stantons or Hall[?] place I believe that if such men as he & Fremont could be put in active service that the war would soon close. There is no news here. I am glad you are having such good luck with your lambs. How does the / the little colt look this spring. I suppose if the weather at home is the same as it is here that you will not go to church to day. there is not much difference here between sunday and any other day have not had any preaching in a good while.

But I have nothing to write so will stop

Your Brother
C E Reed

Sunday P.M. It is clearing off snow has almost left us

There is a smart looking black boy in wanted something to eat says he would like to go north I wish you had a good one when the war closes I going to bring one if I can Tell Willie I wish I had something to send him but will send him my love I got Addie's / photograph all safe. There was something like $4000 sent home by this company out of their last 4 months pay.

The idea seems to prevail among the soldiers that rebeldom is on its last legs. I dont believe we will have to stay our three years out. at any rate 7 months are gone bye. I expect there will be a fight at Charleston this week hope we will be successful

Love to all       C
