Yorktown Va Feb 14th 1864
Dear Sister
I recd your letter last night. Friday night I wrote to Tom. We had a report then that we were going to leave here for Getty's Station but we are here yet. So you may send that box along any way If we move I guess it will follow the regiment
The wind blows a perfect gale here to day the sand flies like snow. I came off from guard this morning, had a good wash all over changed my clothes and then read H W Bushers sermon. The papers came last night. I have taken the Independent over for Adams to read / I got my Post friday night I see it gives a little account of our tramp. It has got for the 148th the 145th a mistake for there is no such regt around here.
The company Almeron is in has moved down this way so it is only three miles from here. Almeron was in the Fort last night after the company mail. Sisson is getting well I believe Our brigade has gone up It was only a temporary concern, expressly for this expedition. The 118th & 139 have gone to Newport news
I had heard of Eward Chipmans death. There are a good many boys in our company who used to be acquainted with him Our recruits have come Co. / "G" has eleven. There were only about 90 for the whole regiment. I cant think of any thing write about and feel just as if I would like to take a nap as I was up last night. I burn all my letters as I cant carry them.
Love to all. Much obliged to Willie for his drawings I shall always be glad to hear from him Can he read any yet.
Your affectionate
Brother
Charles
Send the box along as soon as convenient as I want to get hold of some thing to eat from home
