Yorktown Va Apr 10th 1864
Dear Sister
I recd your letter last night glad to hear from home I did not know whether you would write before you heard from me or not but I rather expected it. It has been bad weather most of the time since I came back This forenoon it was very pleasant this P.M. we had a thunder shower. Yesterday it rained all day last night too.
I have got entirely over my cold now, feel first rate. Not much going on here. A white regt came in yesterday and a regt. of niggers went away to day. I believe they are going to Point Lookout to guard Rebel prisoners
Capt Griswold came back last wednesday. I did not find Mrs Hutchins at Elmira, she came last wednesday. Hutchins invited me down to see them to night I had a pleasant time. She is rather smart besides being good looking.
The gun has just fired & I shall have to stop for roll call. I suppose Nathaniel is with you now. I should like to see him.
I got a letter from Rett Moon last night, she seems to be enjoying herself I haven't much to write. My Post comes regularly
I dont know as I am any more lonesome than I was before I went home / I am afraid that my coming home rather demoralized you. I dont want to go home again till my time is out. Six months ago to day since we came to Yorktown, it has passed off very quickly. Butter is sixty cents here now I have given up buying it, am going to substitute molasses The strawberries came through all right my provisions gave out when I got to Fort Monroe. I feel all who sat on the same seat with me all the way through got pay for my rations
Love to all
Your Brother
