Charles E. Reed to Samuel P. Reed, 7 May 1864
Headquarters 2ond Brigade
2ond Division 18th Army Corps
May 7th 1864
Brother Samuel.
I presume you are anxious to hear from me but dont know what to write as I hear that all letters have to go unsealed or are opened any thing concerning what is going on, why they are stopped. I suppose all I can write is to say I am well feeling in first rate spirits We are in the field and every thing seems from all I hear to be going on all right I suppose I cant tell where we are, but we are not on the peninsula. As soon as I can I will write every thing that has happened since I last wrote. It is very warm / weather. I cant write any more now. Perhaps you will not hear from me in some time. none of you need worry at all for it will do no good
