Charles E. Reed to Caroline A. Reed, 1 May 1865
U.S. Gen. Hospital
Point of Rocks Va. May 1st 1865

Dear Sister
I am still stopping at the hospital but expect to leave tomorrow morning for the Regt I am pretty near well guess I shall get along at the regiment just as well as I do here.

I am tired of the place. Shall go to Richmond. There is a rumor that the regiment has gone to Alexandria. If they should be gone when I get to Richmond I shall meet them at Alex. via Washington By the order just issued by the Sec. of war it looks as if I might soon be home. How glad I shall be when the time comes. I suppose I am earning / more money than I can at any thing else. I dont know as I should save much for ones expenses are so much. I heard some officers talking at the table this morning they had been in about three years None said that they were over a hundred dollars ahead I can hardly tell where the money goes to. Clothing is very high and board costs so much

The weather is splendid. Last night we had a thunder shower, rained pretty hard cleared off in the morning

You will find a three cent bill and two Rebel postage stamps for Willie.

Sam must put in a lot of corn for the prospect is I shall be home to help hoe it / at any rate to help in haying & harvesting

They are cleaning out the hospital here pretty fast. If by chance I should go to Washington I shall look for Ort. & Nell, should like to see them.

Direct your letters to the regiment. It is now two weeks almost since I have had a letter from home. The last one was dated Apr 11th

You need not send me any more papers.

            Write soon. Love to all

Yours Affectionately
Charles E R—
