Base Hospital 24 A.C.
Point Rocks Va. Apr. 23d 1865

            Dear Sister
You need not be frightened because you see I am in a hospital. I wrote in my last that I was not feeling very well. The next day (monday) we marched for Burksville. I was taken with the bloody dysentery. tuesday I rode in an ambulance Wed's noon arrived at Burksville. left there in the hospital stayed there till friday morn when I took cars for City Point

Stayed with Charley Risden friday night, arrived here little after noon yesterday. I am considerable better than I was during the middle of the week. think a few day rest here will bring / me out all right. They seem to take first rate care of all. There are about 40 in this ward When I get so I can eat a little guess I will fat up again for the set a first rate table. The Dr gave me no medicine yesterday said he wanted to have me rest one day. If we had been in camp I guess I should never have been here.

I expect the Regt is in Richmond. I dont expect to stay here long but guess you may direct a letter to me here if you write it pretty soon

Direct to Base Hospital Point of Rock Va. (Ward No 1).

Be sure and put the "Lt." on.

It is quite cool this morning
