Dear Sister
It is raining again this morning. Saturday it rained hard all day Yesterday was cloudy and misty. It is very muddy here Yesterday we had two inspections one in the morning by the Col. and at night by the Inspector General of the Brigade It kept us pretty busy all day

No letter from home yesterday I expect it will be along to day the first sunday I have missed a letter from home in some time. My box has not got along yet. One of the boys in the company had one come saturday that was over a month on the road

This is the last sheet of paper of that you sent when you sent the boots. I have not been very well last week, cant say I have been sick, have no appetite. Last night I got some corn meal and made some porridge made some more for breakfast. It tastes the best of any thing I have had. One of the boys had a letter from Sol Sullivan last week only a few lines and it was not dated. He says he is safe and sound in Libby. Sam must tell Mr Sullivan

What do you think of Gen Butler now Gen Terry has taken Fort Fisher. How good news keeps coming. The rebels begin to get discouraged I guess

Gen Butler is played out now as far as field operations are / concerned. The troops never had much confidence in him.

I have got my last pair of woolen socks on. they will last me till the box comes. My shirts do very well yet. I have concluded not to try for a furlough. they are very hard to get guess I had better wait till my time is out and then I shant have to come back. Less than eight months now and it is ten since I was at home It will soon pass away

I saw Gen Gibbon the other day You direct your letters to the 18th Corps yet. There is no such thing now as the 18th A.C. We are 24th A.C. I guess I will leave this till noon and see if I get a letter from you

Afternoon. The mail will not be here till 4 Oclock to day so / I guess I shall have to finish this before I get yours

Still raining a little. I have felt the best to day I have in some time I am dieting. Eat a piece of bread & cheese for dinner

nothing new going on.

I shall send this with out a stamp as I have but one and I may want to use that

Your Affectionate Brother
Charles
