Charles E. Reed to Caroline A. Reed, 15 November 1864
Camp of 2d Division Sharp Shooters
Chapin's Farm Va. Nov. 15th 1864
Dear Sister
Your letter came last night now I am just as anxious to hear from home as you are to hear from me, and you have just as much news to write. It is real cold this morning. Froze some last night
My box has not got along yet. Some express came yesterday but none for me perhaps it will be along the in the next lot. I suppose the Regt is in York State somewhere. I hear in Elmira. If they stay there any length of time we will be sent to join it. Some think they will winter there. I hope so but guess there is not much danger of it. If we stay here I think I could get a furlough again this winter Would it be best to try again before my time is out. Last week I was quite unwell, took a dose of pills and came out all right. Send me a Times once in awhile. I should like to see how vote stands on the / county ticket. Quite a number of soldiers in our Regiment voted for Mr. Swift. The boys all like him. I am glad election is over and Lincoln elected. I hope the copperheads will keep quiet now. It was pretty close in York State I see that both parties claim the majority. I hope Seymour is not going to run the State two years. I have not had a letter from Sam in a good while a month I guess nearly.
Every thing is quiet here. It is rather lonesome now the Regt has gone. My Post comes regularly. The last week issue came yesterday generally gets along Saturday
I have got just ten months from yesterday to serve. perhaps I may get out about the 1st September surely the 14th
Love to all.
Your Affectionate Bro.
Charles
