Camp of Sharp Shooters
Bermuda Hundred Va Aug 28th

Dear Sister
I recd Sams letter yesterday glad to hear from home. We have moved again Left the front at Petersburg Thursday morning crossed the pontoon bridge at Point of Rocks and are encamped near the place we were when we first came here before we went to the White House. The change is a good one for us. The whole 18th Corps are here The 10th Corps took our place It seems good to get in a place where you dont hear the everlasting crack crack of the pickets. The pickets fire none here.

We have changed camp once since we have been here. It has kept me pretty busy.

I am not feeling first rate to day. I guess when I get rested a little I will be all right I got a pair of socks when I got Sam's letter. I got the other pair you sent me two months ago It is a very fine day a nice cool breeze. how I wish I could have gone to church with you to day. I read one of Beechers sermons in an Independent which I recd last night from you. Do you think Lincoln will be selected this fall. I know he has lost a good many friends in the army this summer I confess I have not as much confidence in him as I used to have. It will depend who the democrats nominate this week at Chicago. I dont believe they will put up a peace man and if they nominate a war / candidate I believe he will be elected. I have no news, or you hear it in the papers as soon as I do.

I shall begin to look for my gun during the next two weeks.

I am glad Willie gets along so well at school.
