Sunday Nov 8th 1863
 
            Convalescent Camp Virginia
            Dear Sarah
                        on yesterday I received the Republican paper which you sent to me and to day I received your letter which is dated on the first of this month I was very glad to hear that your health had improved and that you ware engoying prittey good health again I was also glad to hear that Mary and famly ware all well you may tell Mary that I have not yet received that long promised letter that she thought that she would write to me along time ago. I had thought if she did not care for me why nead I care for hir on this Account I had quit menshioning hir name to you in my late letters to you however I will send hir a paper occaisnely/
dear Mussy the last letter which I wrote to you was dated on the 3rd of this month this letter I presume you have received by this time we have gust heard here that the boys in frunt at or near the Rapperhanock had a fite with the Rebbels on yesterday and resulted in the defeat of the rebbels they ware about seventy five of our men kild and a good many wounded I have not yet heard how many Rebbels was kild or wounded and I do not yet know whether my reagement was in the fite or not I heard a few days since that Lieuftenant Brown of my Company was now in Washington. Sinck in one of the hospitels their if I should be in Washington this weeke I will try to sea him if I can find whare he is, we have had here one of the finest falls/I ever remember of seaing the wether has been fine and warme here as yet we have had but very little frost here as yet and this is a very pleasant warm summer day with every appearance of good wether for some time yet.
The letter which I received from you to day had eight Postage stamps in it I am very Thankfull to you for sending them dear Mussy if I can get a furloe I will go home to sea you about the last of this month but I do not know at the present whether I can get one or not Therefore I wish you not to feal two much disapointed in case I do not get home at this time. I shall do all I can to procure one I do think long to sea you once more my dear Sarah.
            I now conclude this letter not thinking of any thing more to/write to you at this time only that I am engoying good health at this time and I do hope that these lines will find you also engoying good health give my love to Mary Oliver & Childrin and tell Elley that when I get home that I will have some Candy for hir dear Mussy I now close this letter by sending my love to you also I send you 25 sweete kisses

News has just came into this Camp that yesterdays battel was faut at a place cold The United States foard acrossing the Rappenhanock and eight miles below Fredricksburgh the sixth Corps was only engaged in this battel General Shedwick Commanded we lost 75 men kild and 250 wounded have not heard how many rebbels was kild Thy was 1200 Rebbels taken prisners
