Ft McCulloch Octer 1862
My Dear wife Scruggs says he is a going to start home this morning and I will have time to write you a fiew lines he starts. I know you will think that if he comes home I might have come with him and so I could as he did the captain told him he would report him if he did go if he does that he will be dealt with. the law is his wages shall be stoped that is all due him up to the time he returns which may be a good while as we may start to fort gibson in a fiew days Bennet is a going home to be with his wife on an important occasion. you must not say any thing about any of this though while he is there, better not at all. I have not been right well for the last three or four days but have been about all the time I think I will be well again in a day or two I would have given most any thing to have come with Ben. if turns out that we don't go north I expect to come home this fall if I can. I sent word by Mr. Downard to tell you to have my clothes as soon as you can. I would like to have another pr of pants 2 pair of drawers my other blanket coat a pair of shoes and if you can make it a cap will be all that I will want and all that I can take I have not got that shirt yet that you was to send by Graham I was at the fort last Saturday but had not been there you will have a month or so to get these things ready there will be a man detailed for that Service and a wagon get / me some writing paper as I only have one sheet left I want you to write to me evry opportunity and let me know how you are getting along. I don't know when I shall draw any money if we have to leave here it may be a good while first theirfore I borrowed fifty dollars this morning of Scrugg for you he said he would pay it to you you may give him a note for it you may need it before I get I will pay him then as soon as I draw write whether there is any school or not in town and so on ben is waiting so I must bring my lines to a close give my love to children & kiss them for me and take a double share for to yourself so wishing & hopeing these lines may find you all well & doing well I remain your
