Dear Brother & Sister I will pen you a few lines to let you know that I am well & doing very well at present & hope these lines may find you all in the same great blessing we are camped on the Atchafalaya Bayou & will perhaps remain here till the feds drive us off things seem to be quiet here now no prospect of a fight at present as to news I have none certain what I have you can read in my letter to Betty as I will direct this to her as I shall send one to her in this she writes you have been very kind to her for which I am very grateful as you are the only one she can look for any favors from now but I fear you will [paper hole] to go to the war too if so our families will have a hard roe to hoe I want you to write to me what you are going to do & what will be best for me to do or rather Betty as I can hardly count myself of them now you will oblige me by helping her along as much as you can in which I am in hopes you will lose nothing I do not know what she needs I want you to write to me certain So Matilda you will receive my love & respect & this in the place of a letter as you will read all of bettys from your Brother T W Johnson to J.
