March 17th 1863
Dear wife on last Sundy morning the 15th day of March I wrote a letter to you and expected to send it to you by Mr Manases Ker a soldier in this Company who who lives some ten miles from Brookville he expected to he would Recive a furlow so that he could have started home on last Monday but from some cause he has not yet receved it therefore after two days delay I will mail it along with this line to you
Dear Mussy on yesterday morning I received a letter from you dated the 8 March containing one this sheat of/paper and two postage stamps I was glad to hear that you ware well you stated that you sent me a Brookville newspaper this paper I have not received on this morning I received another letter from you dated the 10th day of March which letter I was also glad to receive it stated that you had received the letter and testament which I sent to you by Squire Marlin if it is true about Joseph Hughs he has got himself in a bad scrape that may cost him his farm to get out of dear Mussy we have not yet received any of our pay but think we will git/before long Dear Mussy when we get paid we may not get pay for more then two or four month and perhaps for our full time if we be paid for our full time if I can then get a furlow I will go home to sea you all if we only get paid for four months I will send the mony home to you and will have to defer my going home untill some other time as it would cost me at least twenty five dollars to go home and return so then I could not leave more then about 25 dollars with you dear Mussy if you should be in nead of any thing before I can get my pay borrough some mony from your/father and pay him back when I send you my pay Dear Mussy thy ware a very sudden death in our Regement on yesterday he was a fifer he was in good health took sick sudnly and died in about eight hours his name was Lee he was sent home he lived in Clarrion County the twoth and gaw ake which I had has got well I am now in good health again and do hope that this letter will find you engoying good health my love to Oliver & Mary and all the friends and now dear Mussy I send my love to you good by at present
