August 13th 1864

Dear Wife as I didnt get my letter off when I expected & have a chance to send in the morning I will add a few lines more & will acknowledge your kind of the 25 ult which came to hand an hour ago & was read with much pleasure & satisfaction you spoke of Jess going up in to Cook to try to get him a place & that you had about made up your mind to move back home I think if Jess can stay in the frontier service by moving back he had better do so & if he does I think probably it will be best for you to move home again especially if you could get some person to stay with you & tell Jess I think that he ought to try & send John & Wallis to school next winter as that will be about there last chance as is raining so I cant write to do any good I will answer your letter the first opportunity I also received a letter from Col Montague

Give my love & respects to Jess & matilda & family I would like to se and hear from them
