Dear Son Excel thyself to excel in learn do not envy those that excel you in learning but try to come up with them in your studies in your reading you must not run over your lessons in a hurry but learn them so you can under stand them and answer any question that might be asked you concerning of them. get yourself in a habit of studying and it will become easey to you recollect that one lesson well learned is worth / a dozen run over you are now getting large & [stain] what you [stain, paper fold, faded] your dictionary [faded] that of more [faded] to the learner than any other book without it you cannot make any efficiency in learning pay due respect to your teacher mind and obey all the rules of the [paper fold] that you are one of the best boys [remainder obscured]
