Head Quarters,
Department of the Susquehanna,
Med Dir Office
Chambersburg Aug 25 1863.
Sir
I have to inform you that in compliance with his request the contract of A A Surgeon Edwin Martin is annulled August 27th 1863 A A Surg J. T. Lanning's contract is also annulled to take effect the same date and will also be reported to the Surgeon General as having been annulled. Their accounts if sent to this office will be approved to the 27th inst. Enclosed is an order for Dr. Gibbs to report to Phil. The men with amputated stumps that have healed may be sent to Phil where they can be discharged on certificate hereafter.
I wish only a list of patients now in Gettysburg & Camp Letterman.
I presume you do not coincide with Dr. Harkness, in regard to the rebel Generals or you would not have sent them.
Is Dr. Denham who applies to be ordered to Dr Bates Surgeon to Board of enrollment a contract physician. Par. 55 authorizes Boards of enrollment to employ medical assistance / as may be required. It does not therefore appear that to be any necessity that a medical officer should be ordered from these Hd Qrs.
very respectfully
