Libby Prison Richmond Va
April 4th 1864.
My Dear Wife
The news this morning is very cheering indeed. We are all elated with the hope of being on our way home in a fortnight at the farthest with me the happy event will be hailed with pleasure I have been in very bad health for the last six weeks. Chills and fever at present, which will soon pass away after once having the privilege of enjoying the glorious fresh air of Heaven as it comes to us in its purity. I hope this will be my last letter from the Hotel De-Libby. immediately on my arrival at Anapolis I will inform you either by telegram or letter also at what time you may expect me at home My stay with you I expect will be very short rest assured that I will get all as long a leave as possible. Love to all your family love and kisses to Charlie love to my darling wife from her affectionate and loving husband
