My dear wife I again take my pen to inform you that I am well at present and I do hope that that these lines will find your self Oliver and Mary Thompson and Childrin as well as all the rest of the friends engoying good health dear Musy I received a letter from you dated the 26th May which is the last which I have received from you I wrote to you on the day after I received it perhaps you have got it by this time dear Mussy everything is quiet here this morning on the morning of the 3rd of this month we received Marching orders the nest nite and day all the rodes was crowded with artilry soldiers teams and/ambulances to cary of the wounded of all mooving towards the rappahanack and Fredricksburgh with the intenshion of crowsing at differant places with the intention of driving the rebels back to richmond on yesterday evening about five oclock our men they commenced to lay the Pontoon bridges across the river at Fredricksburgh at which time a hevy battle ensued the Canoding was terifick the bridges was laid and a large party of our soldiers crosed and tooke Fredricksburgh and the hites above it firing ceased about seven oclock last evening and every thing is yet quiet yet this morning it is now nine oclock the battle and it is expected that the ball will open again to day/
This battle we ware not in we still lay in our camp about two miles from fredricksburgh it was ordred on last evening for three days rashens to be cooked for us and liable to be colled into servis at any moment I cannot tell whether thy ware many kild on yesterday evenings battle or not we have not yet heard I do not yet know certainly whether we will be sent home yet or not we have not yet assertained the truth of the stories in circulation in this camp with respect of our being nine months men and yet and yet we have received no news yet to show that we are not we still think that we will yet be cent home which I should like/very much indead my dear Musy—
I must now close writing for the want of time to write any more every thing is exitment here this morning with respect of what is to be done in the first coming few days my dear Musy give my love to Mary and Oliver Thompson and childrin also to all the other friends and now my dear wife I send my love to you and do hope that I may yet be spaired to get home again dear Musy I send enclosed in this letter to you 25 sweet kises please except them from your loving and affectinate husband good by dear Musy for the present I have not yet received any letter from Mary I will write to you shortly again good by this from
