Edwin Lathrop Hubbard
Edwin Lathrop Hubbard was born around 1826 in Massachusetts. He eventually moved to Neenah, Wisconsin, and earned a living as a lumberman. A local writer described him as an “enterprising business m[a]n.” By 1860, he owned $2,000 of real estate.
 
In April 1861, he received a commission as a captain in Company G of the 3rd Wisconsin Infantry. The regiment took part in the Battle of Antietam, the Battle of Chancellorsville, and the Battle of Gettysburg. He was promoted to major in May 1863, and he resigned on November 3, 1863.
 
He married Julia C. Geib on June 11, 1867, and they eventually settled in Placer County, California. He applied for a federal pension in November 1892 and eventually received one. He died in Placer County on December 17, 1907.
