My dear Sarah your letter dated on the 18th March came to hand on last evening I was glad to here from you that you was well and all the rest of the friends ware also engoying good health I was also glad to hear that Robert had done so well with his timbr you also stated that lady Clements propperty was all up for sale that the Creditors had all pushed hir and that thy ware a likely hood of them getting their mony and that you thought I aught to do something with respect to my Claim. it stands in this way when I first talked of going to war I sold and sined/over to Barry McClane he gave me thirty dollars on it ten dollars in mony and twenty dollars in goods such as we nead at home and was to give me ten dollars more when collected he will attend to the collecting of it in case it can be got
you also state that doctor Macklin is agoing to Pittsburgh to live you wish to know if I have ever paid him any mony on his docter bill I have not paid him any thing on it yet I always intended that when I got my pay here that when I sent it home that I would instruct you to pay him out of the mony I sent to you we have not yet got any of our pay but expect that we will get it very some time scoon/
if he has not left your town before this letter comes to hand I wish you to call on him and assertain the amount of his charge and tell him that you expect to receive mony from me before long and that you will then pay him dear Sarah I do not know how scoon we may be ordred to leave this place we we may probly leave scoone we have been under marching orders for some time back thy are waiting for the rodes to dry up so that the army can move we now think that as scoone as the wether permits that thy will be another attack made on Fredricksburgh every thing here indicates a fite within the last weak the army of the pottomac has been very/strongly reinforced with men and every thing denotes an onward movement within the last few days thy have also been one hundred and fifty of the largest size siege cannon arived here to be imployed or used against Fredricksburgh and its fortifications and if sucksi succesfull and if succesfull we will be marched on to take Richmond if these idies is correct you may here of a bludy battel before being faut at Fredricksburgh before you hear from me again Goviner Curtin paid this camp a visit on last Thursday he reviewd his troops made a speach to them and returned home dear Mussy I am sory/mony at this time we have not received any of our pay yet only the mony which I sent you that was the bounty mony which we received it is said here now that we will receive our pay here sometime this month. as scoon as I receive my pay I will send it to you I have not had any mony my self for over a month and the rest of our company are in the same fix—we have pretty hard times here sometimes we are scarce of provisions we have not sean any wheat bred since we left Maryland we live here on hard crackers coffee meat beans and rice although I believe that I am fatter now then I was when I left home Dear Musy if you can send me any postage stamps and invelips thy will be thankfully received/if I can get material I will write to you perhaps every ten days—Dear Mussy I would like to be at home if it should be but one day it would make me feal so happy to sea you and Oliver and Mary and famly once more but I do hope that time will come when we will be together again and now my dear Mussy I bid you and Mary good by for the present after sending my love to you and Oliver Mary & famly and all the rest of enquiring friends I remain your loving husband
