Charles C. Wehrum to Frederick Swarman, 2 June 1863
Camp of the 12th Mass Vols
May June 2nd 1863
Dear Fred!
Your kind letter of the 20th last ult. was duly recieved, but in a time when I could not read it. I was taken with simphtoms of Typhoid Fever, and it took me so down that I could not stand on my pins, but I am however getting strong again, an I take the first opportunity to write to you. I saw Riva to day he recieved a letter from you a day or two ago. I told him to write imedeatly wich I suppose he will do.
You wish to know what became of Maguire & Judson they where both killed. Maguire it is supposed was taken off the field, we have heard from him since Co E. is the strongest Company in the Reg't at present 47 men / Capt Clark sents his regards to you I have not heard from Edgerley directly since he left the Reg't they say he made good business on reenlisting. he was discharged and enlisted in a battery where he recieved $300 bounty after he remained with them 2 months he obtained a second discharge Bully for him, but hard for the Gov't. I looks hard to our 3 years troops seeing these 9 months bounty troops going home daily, Brigades of them who never saw a fight. It was a big mistake of the Gov't, when all these 9 months troops will be gone we will have about 7000 men left in this Corps, about half a Division
I will close Fred my head is getting dizzey.
I would like to see out here once more. Your true Friend
Charles C Wehrum
