Dear Brother
I received your letter of the 12 & was glad to hear from you & phene once more you complained of my not writing to you before I have always answered your letters as soon as I received one from you or phene this is the first one that I have had from either of you for a long time & I suppose that I must return one.

In the first place I am getting along nicely my wound has not begun to heal up yet it runs pretty freely it has run so much that my leg has all pined away is not half as large as the other one I have been trying to day to walk on it but the cords are so stiff that / I cannot begin to straighten it out yet I dont think Fred there is any need of my playing off for they dont seem to be in any hurry here sending the men off to there Regt all the wounded here I think will get a furlough the Dr took my name for one but it will be some time before I shall get one I dont want one till I can walk without crutches if I get one you may make up your mind Fred to have to keep me a spell Fred if I was in your place I would see the Invalid Corps in H before I would enlist there I should think you had got enough of soldiering if you aint I have at least the Infantry I should like to go in the Navy a year or so.

Fred has Erastus Adams got enough of soldiering or is he as patriotic as the rest / of them Oh I hope that John will have to go 300 will come mighty hard it will be like pulling teeth. Fred do you know where Lyman Adams is on the last march to Gettysburg when the column was halted for the Cavelry to go by I think I saw him in the 18 Pa Cavelry he is down as a deserter in the Co. Fred the afflicted Brother is here of your Co he sends his best respects Fred tell Erastus Adams to be sure & not to shake himself all away for they may kneed him by the time they have another draft

Fred how is Sis Mary getting along is she married yet & where is she living I gues she did not know you did she say weather Tom or Jim was in the army or not / I should like to see her very much. give my respects to Geo Clark & Frank Richards. I see Gib on the last march he was driving a [?] team he is the same old sixpence he had a cud of tobacco in as big as my fist

I must close for I cannot think of anything more give my respects to all love to phene tell her I hope my sojourn will be short in Washington
