Friend Fred.
I received your letter a few days ago and was very much pleased to hear from you. I have not had the opportunity of answering your letter before this or I should have done so. I am glad to hear that you are doing so well and to hear that you have a leg. They are bully things are they not? I guess yes. So you are in the Invalid Corps? there is only one condition that I would go in on. if they give me a commition I would take it, but without it / I cant touch them with a forty foot pole.

I have to laugh when I think of compareing legs as we used to legs. do you think I look at my stump now as often as I used to. We used to nurs those stumps very tenderly. I have never heard from Miss Hall or any of the Smoketown folks since I have been home. I should like to hear from Sister Hannah & Charlie. I dont know either of their directions.

I should like very much to pay you a visit and if ever I have the chance I will do so I have no photographs now I have had a lot taken & gave them all away. I shall have some more taken soon and I will / send you one. I am sorry to hear of your Brothers being wounded. I hope not seariously. It was indeed a time of excitement here when the State was invaded. To tell the truth I did wish I had two legs so I could give them a few shots on our own ground.
Now I think I will close

give my respects to your Wife and that friend of yours that was at Smoketown I forget his name. Write soon to me and direct to.
