Diary, July 18XX
My fortnights vacation
 
Monday July 3rd. Rather warm. Went to Rockville returned, was awakened at 12 o clock by the report of a gun & ringing of a bell, passed a sleepless night. arose at 3 o'clock.
 
Tues. 4th. Anniversary of the declaration of Independence; had a pleasant time, rather tired. Glad fourth of July don't come every week.
 
Wed. 5th Went a whortleberying warm as yesterday.
 
Thurs. 6th. Nothing of any importance has happened to day.
 
Fri 7th. Moonlight evening, went to take a walk.
 
Sat. 8th. Went visiting.
 
Sun. 9th Went to church.
 
Monday &Tuesday. Went a berrying Wed 12th Great want of rain. Went a berrying Lost my pail.
Thurs 13th Looks like rain. I went & found my pail.
 
Fri 14th Rainy & cold. I went berrying, saw a large snake.
 
Sat 15th. Foggy—4 o clock Clearing of beautiful
