George H. Starr to Frederick Starr, 21 March 1864
Libby Prison. Mar 21.64.
Richmond Va
My D'r Father.
Yr letter of 26th Feb: & letters of the 3rd & 8th Mar are rec'd. Exchange is still going on. Pope & Mason have gone. They will both call upon you. Mason will give you all information. I should have gone on the same boat with him but for reasons that he will explain to you. Please mention to Mason when you see him that I should like to have him write to his friend the Bishop about me. My box I expect to receive in a day or two. The 200 officers who have left: have left additional room behind them; and we now have fresh air & better promenade. "Ill blows the wind that profits nobody"—The rumors afloat in northern papers about powder under the prison &c are all canards. My health is fine, my spirits ditto. Please don't have any more of my letters published—I can do that if necessary after I get out.
Your Aff Son
