St Marys Co Md Sept 14th 1861

Dear Sister.
We left camp last Monday. we now are on the Patuxent river, in sight of a town, called Benedict. we have one prisoner, taken yesterday, another taken today. the first is a Major. we, four of us with Lieut Denison, searched his store, found epuletts sashes button and numeros letters. we may not return to camp for two or three week, and expect to meet the confederates if possible.

My love to all. Excuse these few words. I have no time. we are on the strip of land between the Potomac and Chesapeek Bay when we get to camp I will try to give you a little more satisfaction

My love to Mother yourself & all

I received yours of the 4th night before last, 15 miles from here.

 Your Affectionate Brother
