Spruce Shades, Charles Co. Md.
Camp Farnham, Dec 16th, 1861.
Dear Sister.
I recieved yours of the 12th inst last eve'. I think all our letters go and come perfectly safe, but they are a little tardy sometimes. I answerd your's containing the P stamps, no doubt but you have it before this. It is reported, and generaly believed that the Rebels Army of the Potomac has been reinforced by 75,000 troops. I cannot believe it, they need men on the Mississippia, and in the Southron ports. With the last nights mail we got news of the taking of Charleston. The mail is going. I must close.
My love to Mother, yourself, Mc & the children, Kiss Harry for me.
Your Affectionate Brother
Sam W Croft
