Convalesient Camp July 1st 1863
Dear Sarah I received your letter dated on the twentieth of June a few days ago I had wrote to you on the day before I received yours then thought that I would not write to you untill I should receve another letter from you as you said that you would write to me shortly again but I have not received any letter from you since I have become very uneasy to hear from you as the rebels are now in Pensylvania and near to Harrisburgh I think it likly that the mails are stopt so that your letters cannot reach me I expect to hear of some very hard fiting scoon in the neibourhed of Harrisburgh as the rebels has a very large force near to that place thy are also dainger of the rebels taking Philadelphia and Baltimore in Maryland thy must be a great exitment about Brookville with respect of the rebels invading that state thy are doing a great deal of damage in the Eastern part of Pa. Thy are runing of horses and cattel from the citizens by the thousands and robing them of almost of all kinds of propprty that thy can get their hands on thy appear to be very succesfull in their undertakings. So far Dear/Mussy I have wrote to you some three letters since I have been in this place I was only one nite in the Fairfax Cimry Hospitle. I described this place in my other letters to you also told you that I met Doctor Hitchold here he procured my me an appointmt of Second Ward Master here my duties is very lite here and I like the situation my buisness is princeply writing it occupies me about one hour and a half each day the ballance of the time I have to my self my pay is not any more then a solders pay I am out of All dainger as I will not be in any battels unless this place is attacted by the rebels This place is within three miles of Alexandria and four miles from Washington Citty I have spent one day in Alexandria since I have been hear it is a large town and a very buisness place I have not been in Washington yet but I entend to go to sea it in a few days if I can get a pass to go their dear Mussy I do not know whether you will receive this letter scoon or not as I think that thy are not any communication by mails from this place to your section of Country at the present time perhaps you will have to chaise/the Rebels out of your state before that thy be any comunication by mails to this section of Country which I hope will not be long. I do not know whare my Reigement is at the present time but it is belived to be in the state of Maryland some place not far from Baltimore and perhaps will have an engagement with Genrals Lees Army before long Generial Hooker has been removed from the Command of the Potomack Army and Generial Mead is Appointed in his place Mead is said to be a good officier and perhaps the boys may get along better under him than thy did with Genr Hoker. You wish me to inform you if thy are many boys hear that I know thy are some Robt Morrison son of old Wm Morrison is hear young Isaac Temple is also hear and Samueal McAdo that usto live with John Clements these are all that is hear from Jefferson County that I know thy are eight or ten hear out of the 148 Regiment but you do not know them dear Mussy I cannot tell you when I can go home yet but I will try to go and sea you some time this summer if I can get a furlow to go dear Mussy I am now well and in good health my nea/has got about well of the rheumatism and I hope these lines will find you engoying also good health please give my love to Oliver and Mary Thompson and children I have not received any letters from Mary yet.
