Sunday, April 5th 1863.
Dear Sister.
Your very welcome letter of March 29th was duly received. I was very glad to hear that you all enjoying good health. I am very sorry for John and his family. I know the man must have a hard time with so many sick. Remember me to him / and his. I sincerely hope they will come around straight before long. I wrote a short letter to John some time ago but do not know whether he got it or not. I received a letter from Yetta [faded] a few days ago. She spoke of Lizzy's younger son and seemed to think the "Herr Tribe" was determindly bent upon increase, although it was already inexhaustible. But I advised her to go and do likewise for if the war lasted long enough we would be in need of more soldiers, and that is the onley way to get them. The young folks seem to think for the wellfare of our future army for they are getting married by dozzen, all through the North we have had a very severe snow storm it set in last night at dark, and snowed untill 10 O'clk this morning. the / wind is still "blowing great guns" as the sailors say. The roads were in very good condition, but this storm will make them very soft again. Our Army in the east and in the west, in the north and in the south, in the middle and on the outside, is sleeping so for want of news I must close. I am well, and hope this will find you all the same. My love to all.
Kiss Harry for me.
Your Affectionate Brother
