County of Fauna
Know all men by these presents that I Martha A Brown for and in consideration of the sum of Twenty Eight Hundred Dollar to me paid by John P Simpson the recipt wherof is hereby acknowlege have this day bargained sold assignd and delivered unto the Said John P. Simpson his Heirs and assigns for ever Three negro Slaves for life (To Wit) Patsy aged Thirty years old also one Negro girl Named Jane Aged Eleven years old also one Negro boy named Hubert aged Twev years old all of Dark complexion and Slaves for life all sound in body and mind and I do warrant and defend the Title Thereof To the said Simpson and Assigns for ever (Conditiond that said negroes remain in posession of said Simpson until the note given for the payment of said Slaves named above is canced & I do promise To pay the Tax of said negroes (for the use of them To wash for my self and famely one day in Each Week So long as they Shall remain in possession of Said JP Simpson
In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and scrall for seal
This the fifteenth day of July AD 1864.
