James Longstreet General Order, 20 November 1864
Head Qurs 1st Army Corps
Nov 20 1864
General Orders No 21.

The extent of the depredations committed by soldiers from the 1st Corps upon the stock, gardens, and other property of the citizens around Richmond call for the most rigid measures of correction. If allowed to continue the result will be the demoralization of the Army.

Soldiers will not be allowed to go beyond camp limits except upon proper written authority.

Roll calls will be had at irregular hours, to detect absentees, who will be promptly brought to trial. Officers will be held responsible for the presence of their men in camp.

Inspectors throughout the Corps are especially charged with the enforcement of this order.
